For centuries, God has always told his people of his actions before he did it. He demonstrated this in the book of Genesis, when he warned Noah of the coming flood that would wipe out all Land-dwelling creatures.
Similarly when he told Abraham what was about to happen to Sodom and Gomorrah.
And even as he did in Ancient times, so does he continue to do today.
